What is Reiki?

Powerful energy healing

Reiki is one of the most popular energy healing systems in the world. It is a subset of alternative medicine – a Japanese form of energy healing that is now used in many hospitals, and even recommended to reduce the side effects of cancer treatments.

It is subtle and gentle, yet powerful.

Practitioners use a technique called palm healing, through which universal energy is transferred as the cells of your body pull the energy needed through the palms of the practitioner in order to encourage emotional or physical healing.

Reiki is harmless and cannot hurt anyone; it does not destroy but instead builds and protects. It will vitalise all forms of life: plants, animals, fish, fowl, and humans from infancy to old age. It can only do good.

It originated from Japan at the turn of the 20th century by Mikao Usui. The word Reiki (pronounced ‘ray-key’) can be split into two components, ‘Rei’, meaning ‘Universal’ and ‘Ki’ (Qi Chi), meaning ‘life force energy’. This is energy of the highest and purest form, the very essence that supports and sustains life.

I am a certified Reiki Master/Teacher holistic healing practitioner with both Usui Shiki Ryoho (Western style Reiki) and Usui Reiki Ryoho (Eastern style Reiki) lineages.

How does Reiki feel?

Reiki is very individual to each practitioner and each patient.

When receiving reiki energy you will feel relaxed and calm. You might also experience:

  • Warmth coming from the practitioner’s hands (even when having remote reiki!)
  • A tingling, pulsating or wave of magnetic sensation in your body as the reiki moves through you.
  • Twitches, sudden memories, visions, tears, cold spells, or emotional swells. If this happens, try to surrendered to the feelings.

Balances your seven Chakras

What are chakras?

In Sanskrit, the word “chakra” means “disk” or “wheel” and refers to the energy centers in your body. These wheels or disks of spinning energy each correspond to certain nerve bundles and major organs.

To function at their best, your chakras need to stay open, or balanced. If they get blocked, you may experience physical or emotional symptoms related to a particular chakra.

There are seven main chakras that run along your spine. They start at the root, or base, of your spine and extend to the crown of your head.

The Seven Chakras

Root chakra

The root chakra, or Muladhara, is located at the base of your spine. It provides you with a base or foundation for life, and it helps you feel grounded and able to withstand challenges. Your root chakra is responsible for your sense of security and stability.

Sacral chakra

The sacral chakra, or Svadhisthana, is located just below your belly button. This chakra is responsible for your sexual and creative energy. It’s also linked to how you relate to your emotions as well as the emotions of others.

Solar plexus chakra

The solar plexus chakra, or Manipura, is located in your stomach area. It’s responsible for confidence and self-esteem, as well as helping you feel in control of your life.

Heart chakra

The heart chakra, or Anahata, is located near your heart, in the center of your chest. It comes as no surprise that the heart chakra is all about our ability to love and show compassion.

Throat chakra

The throat chakra, or Vishuddha, is located in your throat. This chakra has to do with our ability to communicate verbally.

Third eye chakra

The third eye chakra, or Ajna, is located between your eyes. You can thank this chakra for a strong gut instinct. That’s because the third eye is responsible for intuition. It’s also linked to imagination.

Crown chakra

The crown chakra, or Sahasrara, is located at the top of your head. Your Sahasrara represents your spiritual connection to yourself, others, and the universe. It also plays a role in your life’s purpose.

My story:

A hand full of health

I used to be confused, unbalanced, negative and depressed.

My health was in tatters.

My relationships were worse.

Then I discovered Reiki.

It was tough at first as I treated myself; I felt so many toxins leaving my body, emotions I had been holding in for years were coming to the surface and I was finally able to recognise them, accept them and let them go.

Reiki helped me to process the negative energy and create new positive change. And thanks to fellow practioners who also gave me distance Reiki healing, within months I had gained clarity.

And more importantly, I felt good about myself!

The real win for me though was discovering that not only did I feel terrific physically, mentally and spiritually, I was able to really make a difference and help people like you. Practicing Reiki makes me feel more alive.

Together, you and I can restore your physical and mental health, returning your body to a more natural place of inner balance and peace. You’re not alone.

What people are saying about my distance Reiki treatments

“I was a bit of a sceptic and wasn’t sure what to expect. But I can honestly say during the distance Reiki session I felt so relaxed, I felt a strange tingling in my hands. It felt like such a positive experience. I knew when it started and ended, which surprised me. It was as if Viki was with me. I would highly recommend to anyone! Viki is lovely to deal with and very professional.”

Charlotte James

“I’ve been having regular reiki sessions with Viki for a few months now. It’s the best thing I’ve done! I’d never experienced reiki before and so glad I made the leap and tried it. Every session is filled with so much energy flowing around my body and the sensations are amazing. You can literally feel the healing happening. I always hold my favourite crystals during the sessions and the heat that flows through to them is insane!

As someone who suffers with anxiety, I feel so relaxed after the session and into the next day.  Viki is a very kind and caring individual who loves the work she does and puts her clients first. Give it a go!”

Claire Leahy

“I was having trouble with my shoulder and lower back. I didn’t really think having Distance Reiki would help me, but as soon as the session started I felt a warm feeling on the spots that had really been giving me pain and could feel myself really relaxing into the session. After the session I had one of the best night’s sleep in ages. I woke up the next day in half the amount of pain so I decided to keep the treatment until the pain had totally gone. I now have a treatment once a week, because I find I’m more creative and energised.”

Kristian Leigh

“I have treatments from Viki once a week. She has helped me find inner peace and balance, helped with injuries from sport, helped with addiction, and also to get rid of a twitch in my eye that had been there for a year. After the treatment I had a stye, which Viki reassured me was a good sign of toxins leaving me body, and once it had gone so had the twitch.

Not only has Viki helped me live a healthy life with reiki healing, she is very knowledgeable about wellness and her advice is so useful. I recommend her to everyone and couldn’t do without her.”
